It's Travel Thursday! Where do you wish you were traveling today?
View from Grant Park in Galena, IL
Travel Tip: Galena is a unique, historic gem in the Midwest. Rolling hills dotted with historic homes and church steeples are perched above the iconic Main Street. Walking down Main Street is like stepping into the 19th century. You can see the hotel balcony where Abraham Lincoln gave a speech. You can visit Ulysses S. Grant's home. You can check out the oldest house in Illinois. This town is seeped in history with original architecture - something that is almost unheard of in the US, especially in the Midwest.
Any season is beautiful in Galena, but fall can be extra special if you luck out on a visit during peak fall colors. For a fantastic view of the town, head to Ulysses S. Grant's home across the river from Main Street. After taking in the view, you'll understand why Forbes recently named Galena "one of the prettiest towns in America." And you'll leave this town having a whole new appreciation for American 19th century architecture.
